i didn't like ailsean's version of metroid, don't know why. nothing beats the metroidmetal project stemage is doing/did.

Maybe you're right about the album needing a few times in the CD-player.

totally, you gotta. when i did my review i only heard it a few times. sometimes it can take about 20 listens before i really start getting into an album.

You're right but Nobuo Uematsu kinda changed alot of things they did y'know...in the Advent Children Section, Saria One Winged Angel was to be 100% Metal but they argued and compromised and had metal at the 3 minute 14 second section...very good

yeah man the advent children stuff is godly makes black mages look like crap. it was so close to a perfect arrangement, the drums need less reverb, it makes it feel more rock-like. but yeah the chior over those guitars, just fits soooo welll. very well done on their part. then that solo comes in, not amazing, but highly effective.

the only thing that could be improved arrangement wise in my mind is doubling some of the orchestra parts with some layered guitars. kinda like at :39 seconds in. the solo at 1:05 is just so good and effective... yeah we can both agree on that.

and some of the other songs on that soundtrack are really cool, its like electronica-metal i just love that stuff. its like in the Quake 2 and 3 soundtracks.

in time, the site is much more professional, and i got a bunch of reviews to go before you (bout 10) i plan on getting on them soon.

don't worry though, I'll be doing it much sooner than most of the other 10, but just some of them have been there forever (1 year or more maybe?) and some of the people are pretty pissed at me as is, since i was pretty sick for a long time. but if you want a review there, i'll be sure to get one up and use my forum post to generate ideas and the basis of my review (probably the hardest part of the review).

expect to see something up there in the comming months.

also remember, i already uploaded it to Metal Faction Radio so it is on the playlist and being played there. if you want i can send it to a few other metal stations i know of

black mages did some good covers, but others i felt could have been more guitar driven rather than keyboard driven. on these songs i think that game over can do better versions.

"Most of them have never even hold an instrument I can assure."
haha i know what you mean, but i've held every instrument played on that CD and more. i hope noone was seriously offend by my review. as it was supposed to be a "good job for the demo, hope to hear better next time, here's things you could have done better" kinda thing

i like tim's view on things though.

and remember there's no such thing as bad press and you gotta take the good in with the bad. the bad is something to be looked at and learned from, not ignored, which is a common mistake among many bands i communicate with.

with the many video game artists out there game over is one of the more professional sounding and best. keep it that way and make constant improvement!

cause who knows, one day you may start doing original music and put the focus of the band on that and you'll have all these fans from GO.

i'm usually very critical. of everything i do and everythign others do. hell i review CDs for news sites and such, you could say its my living lol.

but yeah it is a demo, but also not your first. this is certainly overall better than your last, keep at it, things get better with time. if anything you gotta be open to criticisms so that you can see your flaws and thus improve, but if you truely don't agree with them thats a different thing.

as i said, you got a lot of great things going for you on the demo, overtime i'm sure these great things will grow on me and the bad stuff won't be as bad.

the last thing i would want is a band as solid as you guys to break it. you got some good overall production for the VG community (and in general) and you got talent and some ideas that are different than usual. you take risks! something that i wish more people did. so it didn't turn out amazing, you at least tried. you got a lot of hardcore fans out there. more than most people and bands get.

here's my honest critique:

first i'm gonna say not as good as i had hoped, i think partly due to the poor lyric/melody writing, but its really hard to write lyrics for video games and i give you mad props for trying for some of the songs you picked, which were especially hard to do. this isn't to say i didn't like it. the castlevania is amazing though. especially the second half. its not just the growling but it all really works well together. great song overall.

Siege At Monsteropolis sounds similar to many other versions of the MM2 tune. i found it a bit repetative (dun dun dun, dun dun dun, etc) and if you put in another thing it could have helped this, but oh well. i think during the solo if you changed up to another riff that wasn't in the song it would have helped greatly.

hyrule sounded great... except for the cheezy lyrics and the female vocalist i didn't care for much. i'm sure most people can agree with me here on that. but i will say this: the instrumental chorus fucking rules, one of the best straight up arrangements i've heard in a long time. good lead into it too. overall i think you need to work on the way you arrange your verses and the lyrics within them. the dungeon theme was a good job, but the solo was lacking. sounded a bit on the spot except at 4:55 and 5:30 and on. i liked how the crying was taken out;)

ken theme was very straight forward. this had the most vocal/lyrical problems. i just don't think they really match up most of the time. i see where you are trying to do, but it could be the people who sang/shouted it in the chorus/verses.

the intro and outro tracks were very cool and different. good job on them. how bout you take that sitar and do a lethal lava land cover from Mario 64?

I give this album a 7/10

on a side note about the guitar tone, it is better on the new album, i just think some improvement mixing everything together would have helped, but it is fine how it is. the older tone for guitar was a bit weak while the new one is thicker and full sounding, sadly its hard to notice this since the older one was more present in the mix and i'm sure a lil EQ balancing between guitar takes could fix this.

it isn't a sample i'm sure of that. the only thing kadmium does poorly is that his style is a bit monotonous, but he improves each time. i honestly like when a person can take a theme and turn it into somethign completely different. it shows that you have talent and song writing ability over copying someone else's work note for note. also there were synths in the original. they were in the background though. and game over also changes it up, but mostly arrangement and instrumentation wise not necessarily with notes, key sig, and time sig.

Zelda: A Link to the Past - Dark world theme!!!

I sooo voted for this one.

The Dark World Theme, simply one of the greatest Zelda songs ever. I wish I could listen to a heavy-metal-GameOverish version of it someday. Wire, please make my wish come true, I know you can do it.

hehe i think a guy named Kadmium did it, one of his best Smiley

Another really power-metalish track is the Red Canyon Theme from F Zero X.

anything off of F-Zero X would rule. i didn't like the game much, but that sound track is 100% metal, some power metal others death metal others traditional. sick shit none the less. aka game over should cover Smiley

one good one is called like "Devil's Call in your Heart" and "Fall Down to the Scream"

Cool, thanks vor the links. I found that Actraiser track. And it HAS the bloodpool theme. Clearly recognizable after 1:09. And that "bridge" I was talking about starts at about 1:30. It's really well done and I like it. Especially the first part, that uses this city theme or whatever you call it.
But the bloodpool part...well, I would rather wanted to have a faster, double-base-driven death-metal-alike sound there. And lots of dead notes and such. And the bridge should as well have faster drums, with accent on the first notes of the measure... If you know what I mean Smiley

But it's fine. Thanks!

ah right it is bloodpool, for somereason i got it confused with filmore (first stage) don't know why. but yeah it is pretty good. just wish i could hear it 100% on real instruments and more straight up. and of course less 'noisy' since stemage's guitar is a bit buzzy (you can REALLY tell in his metroid metal stuff) and crap. it is good, just annoying at times. mind you i hate his drum sound. once again, not bad, just not real Tongue

actraiser music rules! more poeple need to cover that. along with dragonwarrior music. hmm i know stemage (know for his metroid metal tunes) did a metal cover of actraiser, but no bloodpool. it still rocked. www.metroidmetal.com
