This game's songs are made to be powermetal.

If you haven't played it before, there is a descent midi archive here: http://bmunderground.chaosr.com/03_music_bm.html for the game, but they're nothing compared to the game's built in sound.

think about it.

I'd LOVE to hear the "2nd city" music be remixed.

Though I think it would better suit a darker form of music, Sample here. (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/Sr2.mid)

or for a much more upbeat sound

Unirally/Uniracers (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/Uni.Race5.mid)

Is it just Nintendo Metal or can it be Super Nintendo Metal as well? ;)

Then I would suggest the bloodpool-theme from actraiser. That one could be pretty neat ;)

Do tetris, I know ozma did a version in guitar, but dammit I want a powermetal version.

Pac man would also be cool.

Oh and a bowser boss battle theme tune turned metal would be cool, call it "bow to bowser" =P

Blaster Master... for the love of god, cover Blaster Master!

I loooove Blaster Master and its music. Especially stage 3. Stage 1 and 2 are great too. I have to admit that I only reached the rest of the stages by doing a couple of hundreds save-state-load-state in an emulator.

: "NykylaiHellray"
Do tetris

I don't know about Tetris. The soundtrack consists of Russian folk music and is not original vg music. However, some of the tunes are quite nice...

Trows: Yeah, Unirally is really straight forward rock. I liked the other one better though.

Battlerager: Bloodpool theme is sick as hell! I like it.

Yeah, Bloodpool is so dam crazy, drives you insane! Glad you like it :)

It's more a heavier sound.... but as your guitar is tuned down to C (you said so, didn't you?) I think it would rock as hell, espacially thath first "riff".
And the really crazy stuff would make a good bridge... it was just an idea, I wanted to ReMix this one once but gave up since I wasn't keen on cleaning up all the tracks to create some clear, straight rhythm.... If you would do it.... awesome! If not... no problem, maybe I will give it a try again someday ;)

Cool, thanks vor the links. I found that Actraiser track. And it HAS the bloodpool theme. Clearly recognizable after 1:09. And that "bridge" I was talking about starts at about 1:30. It's really well done and I like it. Especially the first part, that uses this city theme or whatever you call it.
But the bloodpool part...well, I would rather wanted to have a faster, double-base-driven death-metal-alike sound there. And lots of dead notes and such. And the bridge should as well have faster drums, with accent on the first notes of the measure... If you know what I mean :)

But it's fine. Thanks!

ah right it is bloodpool, for somereason i got it confused with filmore (first stage) don't know why. but yeah it is pretty good. just wish i could hear it 100% on real instruments and more straight up. and of course less 'noisy' since stemage's guitar is a bit buzzy (you can REALLY tell in his metroid metal stuff) and crap. it is good, just annoying at times. mind you i hate his drum sound. once again, not bad, just not real :P

Yeah, Fillmore has a pretty sweet tune as well. (I am just playing through that game at the moment, by the way :)

And yes, that was exactly my thought. It should be straighter, bloodpool is in C I think, and one could speed through that song with a lot of muted powerchords and stuff. The snare is what I don't like too much about his drumsound... Jah, the guitar is quite buzzy at times.

But heck, we are here to make suggestions for Game Over Songs!
So let's look for other sweet pieces of music :)

Yeah! FillMore track made me wet my pants when I first turned my Snes on those days... It was such a difference between NES tracks, and that one...

Another track that might sound a lottle "powermetalish" is "Witches Forest" from KickMaster, it might get a little repetitive after a while unless you insert some kind of solo...

P.D.: Man... I always wanted to cover those songs with my ex-band...

Another really power-metalish track is the Red Canyon Theme from F Zero X. I realized that when playing it lately. Ah, I beat Actraiser by the way ;)

anything off of F-Zero X would rule. i didn't like the game much, but that sound track is 100% metal, some power metal others death metal others traditional. sick shit none the less. aka game over should cover :)

I know, I voted for that game before, but still:

Kage aka Shadow of the Ninja aka Blue Shadow.

The music in this game is destined to be metalized. Especially the first, second and last stage.

Here is a link to the original NES soundtrack in NSF format.
http://www.zophar.net/nsf/kage.zip

Btw: BrainCells already did a nice metal cover on the 5th and 2nd stage of the game. Check OverClocked for the track.
Or for those who are too lazy to search:
http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01445/

How awesome would the Soundtrack of that game sound in GameOver-style?
One can only wonder.

The Dark World Theme, simply one of the greatest Zelda songs ever. I wish I could listen to a heavy-metal-GameOverish version of it someday. Wire, please make my wish come true, I know you can do it.

Terranigma has an amazing soundtrack as well. Anything from that would rock.
Especially the "Dragon Castle" has some awesome rhythm, would be
U L T R A H E A V Y.
Grecliff is cool as well.
One could use that part starting like after 52 seconds as bridge, you know, that awesome stuff the bass plays there.
The "Creation" track could be used as perfect intro/outro or whatever.
And if that's not enough, Grecliff has a fine, constant rhythmic/melodic figure...
And there are sweeeet melodies on the underworld theme as well.
Really amazings soundtrack if you ask me.

Not bad. I wasn't expecting something this good. I like Death Metal, this guy did a good job with those vocals.
But the problem is it doesn't sound like Zelda at all. And it's too technoish I guess. I like melodic guitars, but I'm not sure if this one's a real guitar, I think it's a sample (I'm not a musician). And about those synth sounds, they just ruin the song.
Overall, didn't make me shiver. It's a good song if you like techno-death. And it shouldn't have Zelda in the title.

Back on topic, someone suggested the Double Dragon II main theme. It's a great classic, I really hope you consider making this one.

: Battlerager June 01, 2006, 05:04:36 AM
Naaah, it sounds rather good for sampled guitar... but quite monotonous. Not sure on this one as well. But I incline to saying its real.
But it REALLY does not sound like zelda. And that synths add to that. It's ok, but not how I want Zelda to sound :(

So, you still have the option to do it yourselves, Game Over  :D

: Vote/Requests
: zMETALica June 03, 2006, 07:06:35 AM
it isn't a sample i'm sure of that. the only thing kadmium does poorly is that his style is a bit monotonous, but he improves each time. i honestly like when a person can take a theme and turn it into somethign completely different. it shows that you have talent and song writing ability over copying someone else's work note for note. also there were synths in the original. they were in the background though. and game over also changes it up, but mostly arrangement and instrumentation wise not necessarily with notes, key sig, and time sig.

Mega Man X - Boomer Kuwanger's Stage
Mega Man X - Storm Eagle's Stage
Mega Man X - Sigma Fortress Stage 1
Seiken Densetsu 3 - Where Angels Fear To Tread
Super Contra - Stage 1
Super Mario RPG - Booster Tower

Super Mario RPG - Barrel Volcano
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Doom Castle
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Battle 2
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Battle 3

Actraiser - Bloodpool
Chrono Trigger - Magus
Chrono Trigger - Middle Ages
Final Fantasy VI - Devil's Lab
Chrono Trigger - Frog
F-Zero - Big Blue
Final Fantasy VI - Dancing Mad (the full thing)

And that's all I can think of! :D
Yea, it's alot, but I thought that they would fit with the heavy metal style of Game Over. Some of the tracks I listed can be use for a soft opening, then begin with a heavy rythem. Some of the themes can be blended together, like the Gradius stages, the Blaster Master stages, both CT's Middle Ages and Frog's theme together, etc.

And to add as a bonus, there is another one that would be awsome to hear from you guys, and it's from the Playstation (also part of Mega Man X Collections for the PS2 and Gamecube:

Mega Man X6 - Sigma Final Battle

That theme is actually a remix of the final boss themes of MMX1 and X2, so you guys can just rearranged them and make them better.

Hope to see these in the future. Hope that the ones on the poll will be in the next set of arrangement.

And Wire, if you want to cover something, just do it! It doesn't really matter how known or unknown the source material really is... what matters are the results and how YOU as the musicians think of it. So, if the other guys agree with it, why not Phienix Wright Ace Attorney? =)

Anyway, support the idea of covering unknown stuff. If it is always like

yeah man the advent children stuff is godly makes black mages look like crap. it was so close to a perfect arrangement, the drums need less reverb, it makes it feel more rock-like. but yeah the chior over those guitars, just fits soooo welll. very well done on their part. then that solo comes in, not amazing, but highly effective.

the only thing that could be improved arrangement wise in my mind is doubling some of the orchestra parts with some layered guitars. kinda like at :39 seconds in. the solo at 1:05 is just so good and effective... yeah we can both agree on that.

and some of the other songs on that soundtrack are really cool, its like electronica-metal i just love that stuff. its like in the Quake 2 and 3 soundtracks.

Are you referring to "Death on the Snow Field"? That one rocks, but I'm with Wire, Ailsean's "Terra in Black" is the best.

Brinstar - quite possible.

Are we talking about Brinstar from Super Metroid here? hmmm.. I know a very cool mix made by Protricity, one of the tracks from the Relics of the Chozo CD, a Super Metroid soundtrack project. The remix is called "Full of Life", it's very well made. I think the composition comunicates soothingness and a sort of mysticism. I just love those synth sounds.
You can download this remix from here (http://smproject.ocremix.org/files.html) (track #6).
Now, a heavy metal version? I just can't imagine an electric guitar or some drums, or even vocals, fitting in that melody. I think it'd be really hard to make it sound like the game.
Well it's just my opinion. Wire, I'm sure you could come up with something really nice, you're (very) creative.

I don't know if it's in your ball park, but some of the song from Kid Icarus could be turned into some pretty fierce traditional doom songs, like the dungeon song.

The soundtrack of Kid Icarus is one of those that really shows that vg music is a genre of its own. That it is something apart from the blips that distinguishes this music. Fascinating.

There was an old game for the NES, Time Lord. It probably had some of the greatest power metal-themed music I've ever heard and I'd love to hear it remixed somewhere, especially by Game Over.

The intro along gets the blood pumping, and could easily roll into the basic theme for the prologue stage, and every other stage has themes and benefits of their own.

Have you ever considered doing a music video or apearing on Attack of the Show? There was a video game cover band on there before that did a horrible rendition of something, (was it Zelda?) and you guys could blow them out of the water. Whateve Game Over does, I'd gladly buy it, keep up the good work!

A Game Over video would be so cool! With your fanbase, I´d guess all you have to do is ask. Surely there must be someone on this forum who can cut a video! I´m not the one, though.

But if you ever want assistance painting a cd cover, always count on me  8) ! (your own pics are nice, of course   !)

Hmm, I know how to cut/edit a video. I also have a digital video camera. I even know a guy who works as a camera man! The problem is, how do we make a video with Zoid in UmeÃ¥ and Tim and I here in Södertälje/Stockholm and how do we find a weekend when all three of us are available? Such things are impossible these days.

Attack of the Show is from a network called G4 which is stationed in San Fransisco, California (i think they may have moved though) that caters to gamers. AOTS is known for trying to get information before it hits mainstream. They give reviews/previews of the latest technology, Internet/Entertainment News, and other forms of multi-media. About every week or so, they feature a band that's not necessarily amateur, but could be well known in the underground scene. Unfortunately they never screened the previous bands and wound up with some WTF moments (check Attack of the WTF section on the site) involving a guy in a pink gorilla costume. But I definately think if you can get in contact with the producer, you could get a chance to perform, have your site plugged, and even get a blog started on their site. Check www.g4tv.com/aots and see if you can send a direct e-mail, it's at least worth a try.

As for the music video thing, there's some shareware programs that can provide special effects, dubbing, and other features. As for producing a decent video, it's going to be hit-and miss. Try to find your destinct style to have in your videos and take it from there.

Good luck, and I hope to see you on Attack of the Show, or even see a video section on your site in the near future.

I've only glanced over the thread so far, but I'm astounded by the absense of certain tunes. Marking the one's I'd love to hear the most, those tunes would be:

NES:
Contra (Probotector) - Base / Boss Battle
Kirby's Adventure - Nightmare Transformation
* Kirby's Adventure - Nightmare Battle, Part 2
* Mega Man 5 - Napalm Man Stage
Target: Renegade - Title Screen
The Guardian Legend - Area 0: Walk Slow
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link - Palace Theme

SNES:
ActRaiser - Fillmore
* Castlevania: Dracula X - Bloodlines
Castlevania: Dracula X - Bloody Tears (better than the other versions)
* Gradius III - Lucky Zone
F-Zero - Big Blue
* Killer Instinct - Glacius's Stage
* Killer Instinct - Jago's Stage
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals (Estopolis Denki II) - Battle #1
Mega Man 7 - Opening Stage
Mega Man 7 - Final Wily Battle
Mega Man X - Spark Mandrill Stage
Mega Man X - Sting Chameleon Stage
Mega Man X2 - Magna Centipede Stage
Mega Man X2 - Sigma Battle
Mega Man X3 - (Secret) Vile Stage
* Nosferatu - Creatures of the Night (Introduction)
Phalanx: The Enforce Fighter A-144 - Deep Core
Rise of the Robots - The Combat Droid
Spider-Man - Laughter of Insanity (wicked thrum + insidious laughter = win)
Spider-Man & Venom in Maximum Carnage - the whole soundtrack (serious, just pick one)
Super Off Road - Title Screen
Uniracers - Demo Race
Uniracers - 3rd Race

N64:
* Blast Corps - Shuttle Gully / Morgan Hall / Sylver Junction
Kirby 64: Factory Inspection

GameCube:
Metroid Prime - Vs Meta Ridley (best Ridley candidate)
* Metroid Prime - Vs Chozo Ghosts

GameBoy:
* Nemesis II (aka Gradius: The Interstellar Assault) - A Chase
* Nemesis II (aka Gradius: The Interstellar Assault) - A Crater
Mega Man V (GameBoy) - Ultimate Weapon Sungod (aka Sunstar)

GameBoy Advance:
Jazz Jackrabbit Advance (GBA) - Chelonia IV
* Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - The Underground Warehouse (Clockwork Mansion / Trick Manor)
NOTE: Originally, these two tunes are from Super Castlevania IV, but this medley *version is much better.
* Mega Man Zero 3 - Old Life Space (Residential District)
Metroid Fusion - Security Robot B.O.X. Battle
Mega Man Zero 4 - Caravan: Hope for Freedom (Opening Stage)

So hard to choose.

Battletoads deserves some attention.
Both because it had pretty kick-ass music (just watch This Battletoads walkthrough (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egx8LJ704dg). 1:13 to 1:35. That part of the introtune was still stuck in my head even though I hadn't played Battletoads since the mid-90s.) but also because I've never had more Game Overs than when I played battletoads.
The play-through I linked makes it look easy, but battletoads was tough!.
I never beat it despite that I spent a significant proportion of my vacations back then trying.
Of course we didn't have youtube back then, so no videoguides.

If (even after 2 years) still holds true, then either Metroid or Faxanadu would be amazing.  Kraid's theme has little to work with (since it's a very short tune) but is one of my favorite themes.  Then again, everything from Metroid is amazing (Brinstar is gorgeous and Norfair is dark). But Faxanadu...ooohh, now that was a great little gem.

There is also the so-so remix of the missile base (by Snappleman) and an awful DnB remix of the final level by Falcon.

IMHO no one has done the game justice though. Yet.
