oh yeah if u want i could review the CD for metal underground. just send over a copy or something (and yes i do accept just the mp3s so you don't have to pay postage).

Oh. Didn't you read the intro text on the index page? There's a link to our Siege at Monsteropolis song. It says "click here" or something like that.    Anyway, I changed the text color to red.

When I get the ability to, i'm going to order the lot. $38AUD is a damn good price for 2 discs and a shirt.. shit, it's cheaper than just shirts bought here anyway.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that, Trows! I first thought it might be a little expensive, but it's all because of Sweden's postage costs and the shirt was heavy enough just to pass a limit.

So I just caught the news over @ ThaSauce (http://www.thasauce.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=332&mode=&order=0&thold=0) and I decided to follow it over here and investigate. That's when I saw I could not only get 1 CD for $7, but 2 CDs for $12 o.o. Talk about affordable.

I do minor webdesign work for a friend of mine, and he pays me via PayPal, but that usually takes like 4-5 days to clear >_<. Next time he drops money into my account I'm definitely buying Nintendo Metal AND NESperado.

Received NESperado today and it's just PURE AWESOMENESS!
As for my favourite track; what a tricky decision to make.
I'm a huge MegaMan Fan, so Siege at Monsteropolis should have been my choice, but some parts of Transylvanian Temptation are so damn strong (the chorus in the first part for example) that I had to vote for that song, even if I don't dig growling.
So in short: Keep on composing and headbanging guys. You are just great.

: NESperado
: Sureshot June 01, 2006, 07:24:21 AM
Got mine today too, and I like it a lot  :D

The whole thing in general is more listenable than the last. Glad you're staying true to over-the-top solos (don't ever lose those!) and it's nice to hear real drums rather than a drum machine. Loving the death metal influences on Transylvanian Temptation too ^_^

I'd have to say Siege At Monsteropolis is my favourite off this, but Little Mac's Confession continues to be my all-time favourite Game Over track, if not one of my favourite songs ever full stop. Saying this, I think NESperado is definitely a step in the right direction.

Good stuff!

After listening to the old demo again and comparing it to the new one, I gotta say Tim's voice seems to be a bit stronger on the old album.
I don't know why it seems that way to me, maybe because of the distortion effect put on the voice record in NESperado (mainly in Siege at Monsteropolis) or maybe the overall higher pitch of his voice in the new demo. Or maybe because of the left-out voice doubling effect?
Am I imagining things, or did someone else get the same impression after comparing the old stuff to the new goods?

: NESperado
: thefantomfreak June 08, 2006, 06:05:06 PM
yeah i see what you're talking about, comicchaser. When i first listened to it, i felt that something seemed different, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Just seems like the vocals were maybe recorded differently this time around or something.

: NESperado
: Tim Reaper June 08, 2006, 08:34:30 PM
There could be a lot of explanations to the difference in my voice this time around. But one of them is that On the last demo we had the oppourtunity to record the singing in an proffessional studio whilst on the second i recorded it in my own home studio.

Or mayby i just suck a bit more this time around  :D

: NESperado
: Wire June 09, 2006, 04:53:07 AM
On the new demo the voice is much louder in the mix. Which I think is a really good thing. For example, listen to the new Queensrÿche album - the vocals should've been much louder. Vocals should always be loud, lol!

There's only a dist. effect on the Siege vocals. On all the other songs I used Izotope Ozone's compressor and reverb. Pretty decent effect.

The old demo was mixed, mastered and the vocals were recorded in a million dollar studio (haha). That's why some things sound different.

And Tim, you never suck, silly! :)

While I was waiting for the order I have started reading the texts of the songs.
Did "Addicted To Vengeance" talk about Ken story or Street Fighter 2 in general? If it talks about Ken's background I'm in coplete disagreement with the lyrics. I think that the lyrics is more proper for Ryu, pushed by the desire to avenge his sensei death by Akuma.

Anyway, compliments for your works, you really rock!!!

The lyrics for the Ken song were the hardest ever to write. Ken is just a handsome dude who knows martial arts. There's really nothing more to his personality or history. But as you might remember, Ken and Ryu had the same trainer (that's why their styles are similar - it's not because Capcom wanted to save some time by making two dudes with the same fighting patterns, as some people think    :P). Of course Ken wanted the same thing as Ryu - vengeance - he just had a tougher surface which made us think he was only in it for the fame.

Yes, I know very well the Street Fighter background and you are perfectly right, is only that i think is not "characteristic" for Ken. Thanks however to have written a song from SF, i really love this game.

I'm surprised that so many of you seem to like Transylvanian Temptation the most! Anyway, that's pretty cool I guess. About the sound: I think what makes the sound a little muffled on NESperado is mostly the drums. Too compressed in my opinion. But the unmixed drum tracks disappeared during a move.

Just received both CDs in the mail today.  Yay!  I'm so happy!  I'm gonna play the crap out of these CDs!

So about the production.  I think you got a better guitar sound in the first one.  But the overall mix in the first one is a bit messier.  Now, in NESperado, although the guitar sound isn't as good, it makes for a cleaner mix overall.  And yeah, Tim's voice does sound a bit thin in NESperado.

You've got to be kidding! Turn up the volume on Nintendo Metal and the guitars will rip your ears out (in the bad way). It's the typical sound of an extremely EQ:ed (necessary) Sound Blaster Live recorded guitar. Very thin and sharp.

At first I was a bit let down by the low recording quality on the vocals. Fortunately, the demo makes up for it with it´s playful arrangements, from the psychedelic intro to Alexandra´s guest vocals and the growl on Transylvanian Temptation. Once again, great work with the vocal melodies, and extra credit to Criss for Temptation´s chorus. The lyrics are very enjoyable as well.

Despite my complaints about sound quality, Tim´s voice remains one of the finest around. On Hyrule´s Angel:s "tell us thy secret" part Tim really shows what he´s made of! Good work on Temptation as well.

I´ve always wished that Game Over some day would have live drums, and my wishes were not in vain! Zoid definitely has the right approach on the material, and I am very pleased with the way things turned out.

And Wire, you are Sweden´s guitar hero no1! My favourite guitar passage is the melancholic sweetness of Hyrule´s Angel, the dungeon piece reminds me a bit of Mountain´s "Boys in the Band". (Yes, I´m a sucker for old HM.)

Over all, Nesperado is very enjoyable piece of plastic, and I will gladly wait as long as I have to for your next gift to the world!

Finally, the vote: Temptation is nice, but I choose... Hyrule´s Angel.

I don't know maybe it's just me (but my brother agrees with me), but I think the guitar tone on NESperado is a bit too warm and doesn't have the sharp, powerful crunch of the first demo.  I really noticed this on "Addicted to Vengeance."

I voted for "Transylvanian Temptation" by the way.  I got chills when I first heard the Level 3 tune pop in.  And Zoid's growls kick so much ass.

Just heard the demo, and I must say, shit damn, I've been waiting for this since 2002, been haning out in your guestbook with "wheeeeeen ~~" posts, but damn, it was worth the wait.
Every track is totally awsome, although My favourites is the Mega Man 2 and Castlevania ones.
The way you depict Mega man as a knight climbing the mountain of death to battle with a Dragon .. just brillant.
And the 'vania song's just about as good. Simon belmont versus the Count in an epic growl-sing battle.
Damn. You guys rock, not only the video game remix-community, but the world.

Ok... my opinion is exactly the opposite. I think Addicted has the best guitar sound, it's a lot cleaner compared to the other tracks.

Btw, about Transylvanian Temptation, the whole "I see you, I hear you" thing may seem a little cliché - until "sonarize you" comes in. Get it, bats have a sixth sense (sonar), hehe.

I hope this is what still makes us original with all the other vg bands out there. People over at TheShizz keep saying there's nothing unique about GO, but I disagree. I think we're trying a lot of things that noone has done before in vgmixes.

here's my honest critique:

first i'm gonna say not as good as i had hoped, i think partly due to the poor lyric/melody writing, but its really hard to write lyrics for video games and i give you mad props for trying for some of the songs you picked, which were especially hard to do. this isn't to say i didn't like it. the castlevania is amazing though. especially the second half. its not just the growling but it all really works well together. great song overall.

Siege At Monsteropolis sounds similar to many other versions of the MM2 tune. i found it a bit repetative (dun dun dun, dun dun dun, etc) and if you put in another thing it could have helped this, but oh well. i think during the solo if you changed up to another riff that wasn't in the song it would have helped greatly.

hyrule sounded great... except for the cheezy lyrics and the female vocalist i didn't care for much. i'm sure most people can agree with me here on that. but i will say this: the instrumental chorus fucking rules, one of the best straight up arrangements i've heard in a long time. good lead into it too. overall i think you need to work on the way you arrange your verses and the lyrics within them. the dungeon theme was a good job, but the solo was lacking. sounded a bit on the spot except at 4:55 and 5:30 and on. i liked how the crying was taken out;)

ken theme was very straight forward. this had the most vocal/lyrical problems. i just don't think they really match up most of the time. i see where you are trying to do, but it could be the people who sang/shouted it in the chorus/verses.

the intro and outro tracks were very cool and different. good job on them. how bout you take that sitar and do a lethal lava land cover from Mario 64?

I give this album a 7/10

on a side note about the guitar tone, it is better on the new album, i just think some improvement mixing everything together would have helped, but it is fine how it is. the older tone for guitar was a bit weak while the new one is thicker and full sounding, sadly its hard to notice this since the older one was more present in the mix and i'm sure a lil EQ balancing between guitar takes could fix this.

I didn't think it was that bad.  The only song on NESperado that was even remotely bad I think was "Addicted to Vengeance" (I think that chorus killed it for me).  Overall, I think it's more or less just as solid as the first demo.

And this is to everyone on the board: Each negative comment is slowly killing the band. I want you to know that we're not making music to show off. Take it for what it is, a demo. A demo that was this: [--] close not to even happen. Of course, criticism is ok, but I think some of you are excessively negative. We didn't go through all this trouble just to hear a lot of this.

i'm usually very critical. of everything i do and everythign others do. hell i review CDs for news sites and such, you could say its my living lol.

but yeah it is a demo, but also not your first. this is certainly overall better than your last, keep at it, things get better with time. if anything you gotta be open to criticisms so that you can see your flaws and thus improve, but if you truely don't agree with them thats a different thing.

as i said, you got a lot of great things going for you on the demo, overtime i'm sure these great things will grow on me and the bad stuff won't be as bad.

the last thing i would want is a band as solid as you guys to break it. you got some good overall production for the VG community (and in general) and you got talent and some ideas that are different than usual. you take risks! something that i wish more people did. so it didn't turn out amazing, you at least tried. you got a lot of hardcore fans out there. more than most people and bands get.

Consider the constructive criticism and ignore the besserwisser-comments, simple as that. Most of them have never even hold an instrument I can assure.
But you have to be prepared to get theese kind of comments, it's nothing to break down about.

I've heard lots and lots of game music remixes and "Game Over" plays in a totally different league then anything I've ever heard in my life. No other "game music"-artist/band puts so much love and work in their songs.

Just let me find "NESPerado" in my mail box some day very soon and I will boost your ego up in the ceiling in my review, cause I love what I've heard so far from the samples

Wow, wire.  You make me feel a little guilty.  But I honestly think your taking the criticism to hard.  At least from what I have said, those were only minor nittpicky comments.  It's a given that Game Over rules.  I wouldn't have even joined this forum if I didn't think that.  Seriously, I listen to both your demos almost every day since I got them.  And I understand that you worked your ass off just to make this possible, and I'm glad you did.  I hope you don't stop this great thing just because of negative criticism.  That's just silly.

Wow

I thinkl it´s great to hear that our demo is something that gets a lot of reactions. I don´t think that negativ respons is something to be put down about, that is just another proof that GO somehow managed to get heard.

It´s great that there is so many of you that like what we do, but I  also get a kick out of those who absolutely hate it :-). Not so many in our forum though. Haters can hate us elsewhere. ;-).

But to those of you that comment the quality I just have to say that Wire could not have done a better job considering the limited budget of the recording. It´s all done in homestudios, and when you put into consideration the level of detail that has been put into every song, then that must be considered a superb job done by our beutyfull axe swinging babe.

"But how come the first demo sounded a bit clearer".???

We had the wonderfull oppurtunity to make the finishing touches of that demo in an proffesional high end studio, and belive me, that kind of treatment on any demo can make wonders for the sound.

So you guys, keep on rocking.

haha i know what you mean, but i've held every instrument played on that CD and more. i hope noone was seriously offend by my review. as it was supposed to be a "good job for the demo, hope to hear better next time, here's things you could have done better" kinda thing

i like tim's view on things though.

and remember there's no such thing as bad press and you gotta take the good in with the bad. the bad is something to be looked at and learned from, not ignored, which is a common mistake among many bands i communicate with.

with the many video game artists out there game over is one of the more professional sounding and best. keep it that way and make constant improvement!

cause who knows, one day you may start doing original music and put the focus of the band on that and you'll have all these fans from GO.

in time, the site is much more professional, and i got a bunch of reviews to go before you (bout 10) i plan on getting on them soon.

don't worry though, I'll be doing it much sooner than most of the other 10, but just some of them have been there forever (1 year or more maybe?) and some of the people are pretty pissed at me as is, since i was pretty sick for a long time. but if you want a review there, i'll be sure to get one up and use my forum post to generate ideas and the basis of my review (probably the hardest part of the review).

expect to see something up there in the comming months.

Although I'm not an experienced musician or anything (I used to play some piano), I'd like to comment on some of the NESperado tracks.

Siege at Monsteropolis is FAST, great work with the drums, the lyrics are great and they fit very well. But what I like the most is the leading guitar... at 2:00 WOW! AMAZING!!!
I've listened to a few Remixes of that song in OCReMix, but none of them sound near as good as Siege at Monsteropolis.
Oh and by the way, Mega Man 2 is my all time favorite Mega Man game  :D

Hyrule's Angel, The Sleeping Beauty... BEAUTIFUL. I like the part that goes "So maiden, tell us thy secret please..." superb vocals. And Alexandra's voice is beautiful, I would have liked very much to hear a bit more of her in this track.
Also, the dungeon part is so cool, I'll never get tired of it. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.

Addicted to Vengance has the BEST GUITAR of all Game Over tracks. The part at 3:30, excellent, very melodic. And the calm part at the end, very nostalgic.
Street Fighter II was such a great game back in the ol days (well, it still is). Just a thing, what's with that jap dialog at the beginning?  :?

Transylvanian Temptation... PURE AWESOMENESS, everything about this one rocks. What I like the most is of course the growling "I smell you, sonarize you, your whip will lead the way" OMFG!! I don't know what else to say, thx Game Over :D

My vote goes for Transylvanian Temptation of course
Siege at Monsteropolis was close, but not as good as TT.

It's from Kill Bill (a movie about revenge) and it means:
"For those regarded as warriors... when engaged in combat the vanquishing of thine enemy can be the warrior's only concern.
Suppress all human emotion and compassion... kill whoever stands in thy way, even if that be Lord God, or Buddha himself.
This truth lies at the heart of the art of combat."

My review if it could interest someone:

When it comes to new albums I've learned one thing - usually when you think an album is awesome after the first listening, you get really tired of it after a while. My favourite albums were not so good the first time I listened through them, they rather grew for every time I heard them. Thus they got better every time and some albums still do, even after 150 times. Let's just say I thought NESPerado was "ok" the first time, but it got better...

I believe that to be able to write a (somewhat) fair review of an album you need to give it a chance. You need to listen through it at least 10 times or so. "NESPerado" now runs for the 15th-something time so I will now just let it run and try to write my thoughts:

Let's start with the negative things - The song/lyric can be a little strange/low sometimes.
That's it

Flying High Through The Skull's Eye
When this song start I thought I've pressed "Play" on the wrong CD. This is a kinda strange song but really cool.

Siege At Monsteropolis
Oh my god... The opening blows me away a little. I still get the shivers when I think of the first time I found myself standing on a field outside Dr. Wily's Skull Castle and this song started to sound from my little 21" Sony. The same feeling hits me when I'm listening to this song. Game Over manages the best Mega Man-song of all times in a very good way. The guitarplay is wonderful as well as powerful thru the whole song, and that goes for the lyrics as well. The best NESPerado-song and the best Game Over-song!

Hyrule's Angel (The Sleeping Beauty)
Probably the best lyrics on the whole album. But I can't say I like the music just as much, it just doesn't quite appeal to me. Female vocals are always welcome and I think Alexandra does a really good job. She's natural to use when Game Over does a Metroid-remix ;)

Transylvanian Temptation
"Symphony of the night" is probably the best Castlevania-game to this date. One of the few things I didn't like about the game was the voice of Dracula. He didn't sound like the prince of darkness at all! Thanks to Zoid, he now does. The growls are awesome! I would like to say that almost everything in this song lives in a beautiful symbiosis.

Addicted To Vengeance
Great song! Other then the "dubbel-tramp" (whatever the english word for that is) in the refrain, this is an awesome song. I don't think Ken is the most interesting character in SF2 but he does have one of the best stage-music.

For Those About To Climb
I played NES the very first times on my aunt's fitted carpet, on my cousin's NES. Among the treasures there were "Excitebike", "Popeye", "Tennis", "Kung Fu", "Soccer" and of course "Ice Climber". I really like this song, mainly because how it's played. Makes me go all nostalgic, back to that carpet again and my first experience of Nintendo. And the title is the coolest  8)

So conclusions:

1. "NESPerado" is better then "Nintendo Metal"
2. Tim, never leave again! ;)

I don't know music so well but I know what I like, and I like "NESPerado" ( a little cliché but true   )

Thank you, that was quite a review! Good to hear that you liked NESperado. Maybe you're right about the album needing a few times in the CD-player. I've never thought of it.
I still don't understand why everyone seems to like Transylvanian the most though. :) When it comes to performance and cohesion I always thought it was the weakest track. I would never make an arrangement like that today.

: NESperado
: cpczk July 22, 2006, 09:04:10 AM
I think with Transylvanian Temptation you truly capture the spirit of the original.  The way you arranged the vocal melodies and lead guitar interludes makes complete sense to me.  And when I thought things couldn't get better, then comes the second half.  I said this earlier but I'll say it again:  I got chills when it transitioned into the level 3 theme.

It's fun to read all the reactions here!
Really cool that people seem to enjoy the growling on "Transylvanian..", it was a really fun thing to do.
So was the drumming, but I really wish I could redo the drum tracks today. I had lots of time to practice and write the drum parts, but the recording itself was very rushed. It was done in about 3 hours on a shitty drumkit with only a tracking guitar in the headphones, and it shows both performancewise and soundwise.
The muffled drumsound might also contribute to the point some people are making that the sound on Nesperado is less clear than on Nintendometal.
Anyway, I love the songs, and maybe we will redo them someday for a proper album instead of a demo.

Ok, keep the comments coming!

I just experienced the same thing! I like Nesperado a lot more now than the first times I listened to it. There are so many nice details to discover (like the inspired battery on "Siege" and the Tim-Criss collaboration on "Transylvanian"). So next time you release a track or demo, don´t expect me to comment it untill 6 months later... :)

About releasing single tracks: Of course it would be nice to hear new Game Over material sooner... but at the same time, it´s kind of a "opening presents before christmas" problem... Perhaps you could release one song as a teaser for upcoming demo... or two... Arrgh, I don´t know!!!

I have yet to listen to the whole NESperados (ordered my copy today), but I've got to say that Hyrule's Angel is definately the best new metal song that I've heard in a while. I'd definately give it 8.5 or 9 out of 10 myself. Not a full 10 though because, perhaps a bit funnily, pretty much everything that sounds great in the song also has its small downsides at times; for an example I simply love the lyrics and vocals (also partly because at some times they sound just like some stuff from Ayreon's Human Equation (http://www.ayreon.com/thehumanequation/) (which is one of my favourite albums)), but at the same time some parts of the vocals feel a bit weak to me, especially the last line "Link be careful, may the triforce be with you." Also, IMHO, the piano/whatever is a bit too loud at times in the dungeon-part; I just never liked that particular theme too much and if I listen to it too much at once it gets on my nerves.

In any case, I'm looking forward to listening the rest of the tracks once I get my cd, and I must say that at least I prefer the "worse productional quality" of NESperados over too clean sounds, it just fits (most) metal and hard rock a lot better. 8)

I know we got hard criticism for the sound quality on NESperado, and I also know some of that criticism was for the sole purpose of hurting the band (read: TheShizz message board).
I want to tell you that I have just finished the mixing and mastering of my pop album and it was like a different world. All I had to do with the final master (after compression) was to put a limiter to cut off just the highest peaks, then normalize. No brickwall, no loudness maximizer, nothing like that. And it sounds really professional.
Before people open their mouths about our work, they should try for themselves to push up a 40-track song (yes, Transylvanian Temptation had exactly 40 tracks - and then I count the drums as one!) to listening volume in a home studio. Many remixers out there work with 4 channels or so - hey, piece of cake, right? It all depends on how many frequencies that are competing.

Metal Hammer Greece had a NESperado review in their latest issue. Such a great magazine! Too bad I can't understand much of it. I know some Greek but reading a magazine is a little bit too advanced for me. But my dad is Greek and he translated the review. It was a pretty good one! I don't know about you but I couldn't beat the game in the same amount of time as  the song if I lived for a thousand years.

And yeah, btw, a slightly remastered version of Transylvanian has been submitted to OCR so hopefully we will see it up on the site in one way or the other (downloadable or rejected) in a couple of months. At the same time the song will also be released with higher bitrate on our MySpace.

Ha ha, cool to see a Game Over song featured that way! Actually, I doubt that guy could finish Castlevania in time either. Either my computer lagged a lot and skipped pieces, or the video is trimmed down quite a bit to fit the length of the song. Eitherway, I´m always impressed by this kind of things.

And great to hear that you sent Transylvanian to OCR. In retrospective, it has turned out to be the Nesperado song I enjoy the most. Hearing a new mix is going to be exiting!

Since i forgot to check for the good updates on demos i am a bit after the general population of game over fans, but *ehem*, i hope thats fine. :)

Just ordered the demo, got it in the mail and been listening to it nonstop for a few days and i must say i love it!
Still the goodness of nintendo classics in metal-format. The overall sound on the record is clearer than nintendo metal i think, although i´ve seen that some people here disagrees with me.
The skill of the band always amazes me when i listen to the demos. Pure brilliance.

My favourite songs are Transylvanian Temptation and Siege at Monsteropolis.
Castlevania has always been a favorite and the music in megaman i've always liked.

I hope and pray that you will never quit doing these brilliant arrangements and even though it's thin between them i must say in way of remixes yours are the most fun to listen to.

Anytime. :)  Been a fan of Game Over since i stumbled upon Little Mac´s Confession some years back.

Btw, i also like the touch with the quote from kill bill on Addicted to Vengeance. It´s a cool quote. ;D

Yeah, btw, about the fact that we're not known to be very productive. We're planning to release songs one by one in the future and then maybe put them all on a demo. So hopefully you will be able to download our new Mega Man cover in a not too distant future.

I know I've posted the translation of the intro to Addicted to Vengeance here before, but in case you haven't seen it, here it is again:
"For those regarded as warriors... when engaged in combat the vanquishing of thine enemy can be the warrior's only concern.
Suppress all human emotion and compassion... kill whoever stands in thy way, even if that be Lord God, or Buddha himself.
This truth lies at the heart of the art of combat."
Pretty much what the song is about, huh? Also, I love Japanese even though I don't understand a single word.  :)

That would be great. :)  Always appreciate the quality of your work.

I love japanese too, and this last year i've been putting down some effort to learn and i think i have a basic understanding. That quote uses a lot of difficult words though and a strange pace which makes it extra hard. :)  But i really like the quote, and it definitely conveys the message in a cool way.

That would be sweet.  But all the wait, build up, and procrastination could ultimately culminate in the most awesome eargasm.  Keep that in mind, hehe.
